Once the temperatures begin to drop, the leaves start to change color and it’s time to pull on a sweater, our thoughts turn to foods that warm us up. An informal poll of our team members, including owner Mark Ryan, reveals that we all love our soups! There’s just something extra-special about a dish that warms your soul, as well as your stomach.

We aren’t going to ask Chef Danny any of his soup-crafting secrets, but among our favorites are our Yukon Gold potato and horseradish cream soup with fresh chopped chives; chicken corn chowder; roasted pumpkin bisque; Italian white bean soup with tomatoes and fresh herbs; and Chester County mushroom and barley soup.

Soups can be a great appetizer for any event. Check out our top ways to enjoy a Robert Ryan Catering & Design soup.

Soup Service

For an unusual soup experience at a seated meal, one that guarantees the soup served will be piping hot, is to include a pre-set bowl containing various toppings placed at every guest’s seat. Toppings can be anything from croutons to cheese to bacon. As service commences, servers pour hot soup over the toppings.

Soup Combos

Soup is often paired with sandwiches or salads, and for events, there are plenty of ways to present them. Try a customizable salad bar with one or more soups to choose from, or a fun food station display that can feature a mini sandwich paired with a soup served in a demitasse cup. Even presenting a cup of soup with a small sandwich on top can be a big crowd-pleaser.

Soup Shooters

Soups can be tricky to serve as an appetizer at stand-up events: You have to contend with a bowl, a spoon and a drink! Instead, a two-ounce soup shooter can be a satisfying compromise. It’s a warm welcome for guests, and it’s easy to enjoy. This is a great option for buffets or cocktail hours.
