Choosing the perfect date for your wedding can be tricky, and in the end, there’s no right or wrong way to decide. It’s simply a matter of preference and what works for you and your partner. That said, it can help to learn how and why other couples picked their dates and hear about the benefits of their chosen season. We’re looking at summer in this post, but later in the year, we’ll also look at the perks of weddings in the fall, winter and spring.

One of our clients, Jackie Dukart, is getting married in July at Columbia Station. Her reason for picking summer is more about timing than anything: She works as a behavior analyst primarily in school districts, so summer is her slow time at work. She also has a lot more availability to plan and organize, and says she knows at least four other teachers getting married in the summer for the same reason.

Another Columbia Station bride getting married in July is Melissa Boscaino, who says, “One of the reasons we chose summer is because of the off-season prices, but also because we wanted our engagement to be about a year. We also already had other weddings to attend in May and June.”

Our staffing coordinator and office manager, Erica Kornoski, also weighs in on what makes summer a great choice for many couples.

“There are plenty of added amenities that venues are able to offer in summer,” she said. “If you’re looking to create a more relaxed wedding reception for your guests, a lot of couples love adding lawn games to their party. Summer holidays are another bonus, since you can extend the weekend for your wedding with multiple wedding-related events, such as a post-wedding picnic or brunch.”

Here are more perks of a summer wedding:

  • Warm weather!
  • The lush greenery sets the stage for outdoor ceremonies.
  • Longer days.
  • Fun summer foods, such as shaved ice, popsicles and fruit skewers.
  • Use of outdoor spaces for ceremonies, cocktail hours, lawn games, cigar bars and more.
  • The number of beautiful flowers that are bloom for decor, bouquets and centerpieces.
  • Beautiful summer sunsets offer the perfect backdrop for wedding photos.
