As you and your partner start planning your wedding, one of the biggest decisions you’ll make is picking the date. Lots of factors will influence your choice, from whether your chosen venue is available, to possible scheduling conflicts with work or family. Something else to consider is the season. Each season has its charms, from warm weather in the summer, to colorful foliage in the fall, but don’t discount winter! There are many compelling reasons for a winter wedding. Here are our favorites:

The Deals

Wintertime often means vendors can offer off-peak discounts and might have more available dates, too. You’ll also likely have less competition for vendors which makes life easier.

The Colors

Rich and deep colors are perfect for a winter wedding. You might never consider dressing your bridesmaids in ruby red or dark green in the spring, but these colors make sense and offer a “wow” factor in the winter.

The Textures

You can go wild with fabrics in winter, from velvet dresses to lace tablecloths to sparkly sequin decor. You can carry it through from the invitations to the attire and decorations — don’t forget the cake!

The Romance

Winter brings about strong romantic feelings — so, think romance! Help your guests fell the same with lots of candles, greenery and even holiday decor. Seasonal flowers also add to the allure.

The Clothes

Gorgeous, and warm, capes and wraps add a fun and functional element to your outfits. Be bold and give your photographer something special to capture.

The Light

Striking winter light makes for great wedding photos. Think shadows, light and dark contrasts and, if you’re using some of the bold colors and textures above, including plenty of winter white in the setting.Photo: Daniel Fullam Photography

The Freedom

Relax! There’s no need for a Plan B or worrying about the weather since everything is inside. Anyone having an outdoor wedding always has to keep that in mind and have a backup plan.

The Looks

Unlike a hot summer day, you won’t have to worry about melting makeup or frizzy hair. This gives you the freedom to experiment a bit more — if you choose! — with dramatic makeup and intricate hair designs.

The Food

Comfort food and winter go hand-in-hand. You can offer guests tasty soups (see our staff’s favorites here), hot drinks and other favorites to warm up your guests.

The Snow

There’s always the chance of snowy photos, which can be magical. Prepare for that eventuality with the capes and wraps noted above.Ready to learn more? Schedule a consultation with one of our event managers today!
