The last name may sound familiar because Kayla Ryan is another hardworking member of the Ryan family, taking care of not only staff but also clients, too! Learn more about this go-getter who started at Robert Ryan Catering & Design at age 13!
What is your job title? What do you do day-to-day?
I am the staffing administrator and a day-of coordinator. I’m part-time, and work with the staffing coordinator not only to staff all of the scheduled events with servers, bartenders, and day-of coordinators, but also to assist with the on-boarding and hiring process for all of these positions.
How long have you worked for Robert Ryan Catering & Design, and what’s it like to be born into the business?
Seven years! Even though I was born into the business, I never thought I would be 19-years-old and executing an entire wedding! I started out working in operations, washing dishes to doing coat check, then moving to waitstaff, working in the office, and now a day-of coordinator. At first, I was unsure I’d be able to run an entire wedding — until my grandfather (and our founder!) Bob Ryan and my father (our chef/owner!) Mark Ryan boosted my confidence.
How would you describe Robert Ryan Catering & Design to a potential client or employee?
I would describe Robert Ryan Catering & Design to an employee as being a fun, energetic, and high-paced atmosphere where you can meet a lot of new people. I’d describe it similarly to a client, noting that we’ll really take good care of them so they have the best special day ever.
I grew up outside of Pottstown and graduated from Owen J. Roberts High School. Growing up, I wanted to be a teacher; however I’m now taking business courses in college.
What do you love most about your job?
As a day-of coordinator, I love meeting my couples two weeks before their wedding, arranging for their ceremony rehearsals on site at our wedding venues a day or two before their big day, and then watching the couple become one on their special day.
Nobody would know by looking at me that I am the oldest of four! I have a sister, Brianna, who is 18, a brother, Mark Jr., who is 15, and another sister, Korrine, who is 6.
What do you do for fun outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my family and friends — and, shopping!
What would be your desert island last meal?
It would have to be a shrimp tempura sushi roll.
