16 Jan Meet the Columbia Station Team: KT Mallory
At Robert Ryan Catering & Design, it’s very important to us that you get to know and feel comfortable with the person who will be helping to manage your event. Learning about your event planner, who will be your main contact throughout the process, is a key factor. Our event planners build strong relationships with our clients so that each wedding or special event is a reflection of the couple’s personal style. We love to share stories about our staff so that you, our valuable client, can get to know them a bit better.
KT Mallory has been with us in a variety of positions — from her days as a day-of-event coordinator in 2015, to a college internship, to her latest role as event manager at Columbia Station. Here’s a bit more about her!
When did you start working for Robert Ryan Catering & Design?
I started working here in the summer of 2015 as a day-of-event coordinator. I loved working with the couple on the day of their wedding and wanted to get more involved. Just last year, I finished my college career at Temple University’s School of Tourism and Hospitality management with a full-time internship with Robert Ryan Catering & Design. Shortly into my internship, I was hired full-time as the office manager at Columbia Station, and now, less than a year later, I’m the event manager!
What do you do day-to-day?
Everything from corresponding with clients to first-time tours to planning meetings to final meetings. For most of our clients, this is the first big event they are planning. I take their vision and make it a reality.
Is KT short for something?
My real name is Katherine. My family was going to call me Katie. When I was little and starting to talk, I could not pronounce Katie, and I would say “KT” instead. I guess you could say it just stuck!
How would you describe Robert Ryan Catering & Design to a potential client or employee?
We’re a family-run business that takes pride in its roots. We work hard to ensure our clients’ satisfaction. Becoming a client or an employee with Robert Ryan Catering & Design is like becoming a part of the family.
What do you think makes Columbia Station special?
Not many people can say they got married in a train station or that they got ready in a caboose! It’s a unique space that is full of charm and rich with history. I was told by one client that years ago, he boarded the train at Columbia as he was headed off to war. Bob Ryan, our founder, and Mark Ryan, our co-owner, did such a great job renovating it and making it modern while still keeping its character.
Where did you grow up? What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I grew up locally in Paoli. From a very young age, I had always wanted to be a teacher. After studying teaching at West Chester University for a year, I decided that teaching really was not for me. After planning a fundraiser, I realized that I had a passion for planning events and event planning was what I wanted to do for a living.
What do you love most about your job?
I love getting to know people and getting to be a part of planning big milestone events in their lives. It’s a lot of fun getting to know clients on a personal level and helping make their dream events come to life.
Tell us something about yourself that no one would know just by looking at you.
My family and I were featured on the hit show Say Yes to the Dress for my sister’s wedding!
What do you do for fun when you aren’t working?
I love spending time with my family. We’re all very active and enjoy being outdoors. In the summer, I love going down to the shore. Right now, I am currently planning my own wedding and spending most of my free time planning for that!
What would be your desert island last meal?
Chips and queso.
