08 Aug Featured Venue: Where History and Elegance Meet—Philander Chase Knox Estate
You’re engaged—congratulations! When it’s time to book your venue, look no further than the luxurious Philander Chase Knox Estate, where history meets elegance.
What makes this venue so special? It’s the only event venue inside Valley Forge National Historical Park, the site on which General George Washington’s army encamped during the American Revolutionary War. Every event becomes a piece of history.
Bring the Past to Your Future
The Philander Chase Knox Estate was built in 1785 as a farmhouse. In 1893, renovation and additions were added—turning it into Queen Ann-style. Further renovation and additions were completed again in 1913, making it into the estate we see today. In 1965, the Estate became part of the park. It was revived in 2015, restoring it to its former glory, and the estate now serves as a unique and charming event venue.
The Philander Chase Knox Estate has a long history of hosting elegant affairs. The Knox family loved throwing parties at the Estate; in fact, when Attorney General Knox’s daughter Rebekah married James Tindle, President Theodore Roosevelt was a guest for the ceremonies and spent the night at the house.
Imagine holding your event in a locale that draws on hundreds of years of history combined with rustic elegance and Robert Ryan Catering & Design’s unparalleled upscale service and amenities. Let Philander Chase Knox be your own estate for the day, complete with all of the stylish sophistication the venue evokes.
The beautifully manicured lawn looks out onto colorful wildflowers and the charming Valley Creek, creating the perfect backdrop for exchanging vows. For cocktail hour, your guests will enjoy the spectacular view from the slate patio or mingle amidst the period-style furniture in the living and dining rooms. The main event will take your guests under the state-of-the-art, fully carpeted 50 x 80 foot tent, where they will dine, seated at gorgeous reclaimed barn wood farm tables and seated in rustic cross back-chairs.
Smile for the Camera!
Think of the limitless photo opportunities! Valley Forge Park and the Estate offer many differing locales for your photos. Within the park, pose in front of the many monuments, General Washington’s headquarters, the Muhlenberg Brigade area, the National Memorial Arch and many more historically significant locations. At or near the venue use the rustic barn ruins, green house ruins, root cellar entrance, various stone walls and the rolling fields surrounding the property as your backdrop.
Even better, invite General George Washington himself—as portrayed by living biographer Carl Closs—to be a part of your special day. Your guests will love posing with General Washington for photos, and he can even share information about George Washington, the Revolutionary War and historic Valley Forge Park.
A Collaboration of Historical Proportions
How did Robert Ryan Catering & Design come to offer this exclusive venue for your very special day? We really owe it all to Chris Caba, owner of The Party Center in Phoenixville. When Chris first learned of the opportunity to lease properties in Valley Forge Park, he approached Bob Ryan, our CEO and founder, with his vision. Together, they turned this vision into reality.
The National Park Service leased the historic Philander Chase Knox Estate to Valley Forge Park Events, LLC, a partnership between Robert Ryan Catering & Design and The Party Center, in an effort to enhance this and other sites within Valley Forge National Historic Park for generations to come.
Chris shares, “I was looking around to either purchase or lease a property to open an event venue and then a friend helped me set up a meeting with the park. I knew they were leasing properties and just knew that it would be a one-of-a-kind venue. There is no other event venue located right in the middle of historic Valley Forge Park.”
He continues, “When I first toured PCK, it was pretty run down, but I could immediately see the potential and beauty. The process was a long one, but I learned a lot. The National Park Service has a fantastic staff of smart and dedicated people. I am still wowed every time I visit PCK. It really is a special, special place.”
