14 Sep Behind the Brand: Meet Leigh McIntyre, Event Planner
When you plan your wedding with Robert Ryan Catering & Design, one of the first people you will encounter is an event planner. Our event planners build strong relationships with our clients so that each wedding will be a reflection of the couple’s’ personal style.
We love to share stories about our staff so that you, our valuable client, can get to know them a bit better. We’ve recently introduced you to Amanda Smith and Tiffany Johnson. Now it’s time to meet Leigh McIntyre.
Where did you grow up? What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Leigh McIntyre: I was born and raised in West Chester, PA. I went to Temple University for college and studied digital media and graphic design, but I really always wanted to do film. After I graduated, I didn’t find a job right away and was getting a bit sick of city life. I took a trip to visit friends on Martha’s Vineyard and fell in love with the island. I ended up becoming a live-in nanny for a few years.
What is your job title? What do you do day-to-day?
I am an event planner at Philander Chase Knox Estate, located in historic Valley Forge Park. Daily, you can find me corresponding or meeting with people in person who have booked events. I also handle potential clients who inquire about possibly booking events.
How long have you worked for Robert Ryan Catering?
I started working for Robert Ryan in June 2015. I had worked in the restaurant industry in Philly, managing some restaurants. I had recently become a mom to my 2½-year-old daughter, Ella. Working in the industry just wasn’t the best hours for me. I started to think about my skills and interests, knowing that I would need to find different employment. I’ve always loved planning events and having a deeper connection with clients and regulars, so I did some research on catering companies both inside and outside of Philly. I noticed there was a job opening for an office manager at Robert Ryan Catering. I got hired as office manager with the hopes of eventually moving to event planner position. That one day was just two weeks after I was hired! I became an event planner at Barn on Bridge; in January 2016 I moved to Philander Chase Knox!
What do you love most about your job?
It’s the happiest time in the lives of the people I work with. They are planning fantastic weddings where they are being celebrated by their loved ones. It’s a great feeling to be around that kind of positive energy. I love the perfect mix of office work and facetime with clients. Every event is different and that keeps me on my toes. Also, I come to work every day and have a view of a national park from my office window. How amazing is that?
Philander Chase Knox Estate is a pretty special venue. Do you have any favorite spots around the property?
I love the atmosphere down by the ceremony area. The wildflowers are so pretty and there is a water feature, too. It is definitely my favorite spot and I get to see it every day when I pull into my parking space!
What are your favorite things to do when you aren’t working?
My daughter Ella is 2½ years old. I love to take her to the playground, the park, the pool and museums. She is amazed by everything and anything right now and it is so fun to watch. I love to go out to eat and try different foods—there isn’t much I don’t like! I do exercise on a daily basis and try to stay fit. I love hanging out with my friends, listening to music and seeing concerts, too.
What would be your desert island last meal?
I will eat anything and I love trying new stuff. I’m a meat and potatoes girl, but also love Indian and sushi. I worked at several Mexican restaurants and always loved the food. I guess my last meal would be really great nachos with a huge bowl of sour cream.
